After an awful day at school, Izzy wants to be left alone. But it’s Friday, and that means making tortillas with Lito. As the mistakes pile up, they come tumbling out of Izzy—and Lito surprises her by saying everyone makes mistakes, and if she makes a tortilla out of her mistakes, he will EAT it. What 3 words would you use to describe your book? Hilarious Joyful Mistacos Are you agented? If so, can you share how you got one? Yes, my agent captured me by setting up a muffin under a very large shoe box. What was your favorite part of the publication process with this story? Working with my publishing team at Kokila as they have been so excited, and supportive of my book since the start! What message are you hoping readers will take away from this story? That sharing your mistakes can be a wonderful thing! As it gets that weight off of you. And HEY, if that weight goes into a taco…all the Bettteerrrrrr!  What comes next for you as an author? I’m going to hide under my bed later this month, and work on a very, very, VERY funny graphic novel that I can’t wait to show off soon. At least the dust bunnies will get a sneaky peek!!  Eliza Kinkz is a Tejana artist who never stopped viewing the world through the bright colors of her crayons, AND she even ate a few, too!
She's illustrated many hilarious picture books, including Papás Magical Water-Jug Clock by Jesús Trejo, which won the Pura Belpré Illustration Honor, and she was the 2022 James Marshall Fellow.
